Legal stuff

The boring but important bits. Kept short because I'd rather be riding.

Privacy

SpokePlan has no user accounts, no sign-ups, no passwords to forget. Here's what happens with your data.

Your browser, your data

Routes, waypoints, and preferences live in your browser's local storage. I don't have access to them and couldn't peek even if I wanted to.

Route calculation

When you plan a route, your waypoints go to the SpokePlan server so it can crunch the numbers. The server doesn't store them after the response is sent. Think of it like asking for directions, not handing over your diary.

Shared routes

When you hit the share button, SpokePlan stores the route on Cloudflare so other people can open the link. That's the deal with sharing. Links expire after 30 days.

Finding your location

To center the map somewhere useful on your first visit, SpokePlan asks MapTiler to guess your city from your IP address. On mobile, your browser may also offer more precise GPS location if you grant permission. Your location stays in your browser's memory. It isn't stored on the server.

Third-party services

A few external services help make SpokePlan work:

Analytics

I run lightweight, self-hosted analytics to catch bugs and keep things fast. This sets a small session cookie that expires after 15 minutes of inactivity. The data is anonymous, no fingerprinting, no tracking across sites.

Terms

Routes are suggestions, not gospel. Road conditions change, surfaces deteriorate, and detours happen. I work hard to keep the routing solid, but it comes as-is. Preview before you roll out. Nobody wants a gravel path in their best road shoes.
